WINTER LIGHT DEPRIVATION

When there is less natural light

Light is one of the most important environmental cues for your biological daily rhythm. It affects your mood and how your body adapts to the alternation of day and night.

In autumn and winter, the days are shorter, there is less natural light, and you spend more time indoors. Your body senses the lack of light, so it’s especially important to make sure you have adequate lighting around you, even on cloudy days.

What is light therapy, and how does it work?

Light therapy aims to specifically compensate for a lack of sunlight: it provides bright, UV-filtered light with the right spectrum at the appropriate time of day.

Not every bright lamp is a light therapy lamp. The right intensity, distance from the lamp, timing, and duration of use all matter.

When used at the right time, light therapy is a long-established method for treating low energy levels and low mood.

Learn more about light therapy
  • 01 — MORNING

Turn on the light as part of your morning routine. Morning light is an important signal for your body.

  • 02 — IN LIGHT

You don't need to look directly into the lamp.

Position it so that its light falls into your field of vision while you have breakfast, work, or get ready.

  • 03 — REGULARLY

    Consistency matters.

Light therapy is not a one-time "recharge." Regular use can be part of your winter morning routine.
